Science

Science is taught to all year groups, as they work through one scientific  theme at a time. These lessons are based on the national curriculums statutory and non-statutory guidance.  We feel it is necessary for the children to be able to widen their knowledge and understanding of this subject in any way possible.

Science gives children an opportunity to explore and discover what is in the universe around us and how these things work and have worked over centuries. It gives children a chance to question these facts in a way for them to develop a deeper understanding of a wide range of scientific ideas.

Over the course of the academic year the children will be exposed to a variety of topics and are given the opportunity to carry out experiments based upon these different areas; thus being given a chance to use other curricular subjects in the process, for example Maths. Further to this some year groups will have the opportunity to venture out on enrichment activities to go alongside their learning in the classroom.

Links are made throughout the year within this subject and it gives the children a chance to see other subjects being used in a cross curricular manner. We aim to do this as often as we can and in doing so we like to take part in Science week over the year. During this week it is a chance for the children to further their knowledge and understanding of a particular part of their scientific learning in participating in a variety of fun activities.

A successful example of these activities is the launch of the “Rocket Seed” experiment that was displayed in the media. Our children have had the privilege of being a part of this experiment and it has given them opportunities to raise many scientific questions.
